Photos and Words by Richard Roesler
November 24, 2017 - Judging by the line wrapped around the block as I arrived at Revention Music Center, I'd have to say I wasn't the only one in town looking forward to spending an evening with the hometown boys of Blue October! Since it was a sold out show, sorry if you missed it!
Justin and crew brought along Austin, Texas favorites Missio to kick off the Thanksgiving/Black Friday weekend’s festivities. And if all that wasn't enough, those of us covering the show were informed we could photograph the entire show! Photographer's Love to be given the opportunity to cover the entire thing, it allows for opportunities to catch moments you would otherwise be sitting there going "Dang wish I'd have gotten that shot!” The stage/pit had extensions allow the band to still interact closer with the audience.
At one point in the evening I had gotten right up to the stage, with a larger lens tying to get a shot of drummer/brother Jeremy Furstenfeld. Although focused on the viewfinder, I still caught movement coming from my left, as there was a path on long that front edge between the stage extensions. As I began to back away, Justin just waved at me “Like no problem, keep on keeping on” and started to adjust his path. While you never want to do anything to impact the artist performance and I was already backed off, (I don't usually cross the stage edge) I found that to be really cool!
Later in the evening Justin took the audience interaction to the next level, getting off the stage and working the barrier, he then made his way around the barrier to left side of the stage where an area for the bands mobility impaired fans had been set up to enjoy the show. He seemed to at least try and acknowledge everyone, even if he was unable to reach him or her.
I can’t say for sure, but I’m fairly positive the Furstenfeld boys, along with Ryan, Matthew & Matt played for close to two and half hours! It was one heck of a party and sure beat the hell out fighting the crowds at the local shopping mall to save .32 cents on Snuggie! And our crowd was more civil as well!
Till Next Time,
Richard Roesler
P.S. I Had to add the image of the ladies. I was checking my hastags on Instagram and wondered how my image had already gotten on there? Realized it was the same young ladies i had snapped a picture of. I may also add some additonal images?
