Photos and Words by Richard Roesler
March 20, 2018 - Lately I have had the pleasure of attending several shows for various artists on 10, 15 & 20 plus year tours and it got me wondering. What makes these individuals do what they do? The constant traveling, hotel rooms, cramped vans, bad food etc?
I know in the 30+ years with my British inspired named band "Piss Off Wanker", where I'm not only the lead air guitarist, but also the lead shower stall singer as well, there have been times I admit, I've felt like "phoning it in".
So what motives these people, some being possibly the only original artist left, others have been together and at it for 50 years, to continue, day after day, year after year, tour after tour, to keep stepping out on that stage, to keep writing new songs? Initially it might be as simple as it was so eloquently stated by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straights "Money for nothing and chicks for free" or possibly the lure of waking up each day at the crack of dusk, it seems difficult to pinpoint just one thing.
Maybe in the end it's as simple as the music and the fans
Till next time
