Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
September 21, 2018 - I discovered Tyler Bryant in the 2009 Rock-U-Mentry, Rock Prophecies, a movie about Rock Photographer Robert Knight. You may not know the name, but believe me you’ve seen his work! In the movie he tells of how Stevie Ray Vaughan, in a somewhat foretelling of the future, tells Robert “If anything ever happens to me, you’ll know me when you see me”. Robert came to discover Tyler, playing around his home in Honey Grove, Texas and believed the talented young man might just be blessed with a little bit of SRV! Please don’t misunderstand this young man is talented and has worked at his skill. But when a photographer who’s met and photographed Stevie compares you to him that’s not too shabby!
While I didn’t discover the movie until a few years later, I made a mental note to keep an eye out for when he might pass through Houston. The first time I saw Tyler was 2015, when he opened for Jeff Beck and the Hometown Boys of ZZ Top, not a bad crows to be running with! On that tour it was just Tyler, sans the Shakedown and he was only entertaining the crowd with acoustic guitars. But you could tell there was something special happening.
So a few more years pass & I finally got to catch up with him again at the House of Blues and it was worth the wait! These young men have been traversing the globe turning the world on the Tyler Bryant and The Shakedown! You should check them out when they pay your city a visit.
