Samantha Fish Bulletproof Tour at the Heights Theater
August 2, 2024 - Not sure whats up with the site or why the images do not open? That is above my pay grade sorry. I will say it was an amazing show as always! I was suprised Ms Fish came back out for an oncore as in my opinion she left us with an amazing set and and that last song prior to was wild! I dont know what song it was, I guess Ms Fish doesnt like people to photograph her set list as the stage hand even returned and turned it over while we were waiting in the pit. Interesting first time in 11 years of getting to do this, but okay by me as it is Always a pleasure to get to photgraph this young lady!

The Zac Schulze Gang
August 2, 2024 - With the doors opening at the Heights Theater at 7, but The Zac Schulze Gang not due to hit the stage till 8 I wondered about visiting and while by no means a scientific study or even close to an actuate poll. It seemed the arriving guests were 50/50 with some inquiring if Id heard of the band & others statements of “You haven’t heard of them?”, as if Id been living under a rock somewhere! Whats interesting is there is no one named Zac in the band, just kidding! Zac Schulze is the guitarist & vocalist with Ant Greenwell on bass & Zac’s brother Ben on drums, with both Ant and brother Ben contributing to the vocal duties.

ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed, Simple Man Tour
ZZ Top Sharp Dressed, Simple Man Tour
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
July 30, 2023 - Never could I have imagined oh so many years ago when hearing ZZ Top for the first time back in the 70s that either one of us would still be here in 2023! Granted we have lost Dusty, yet he will never be forgotten, I’d imagine he’s still out on that stage cheering the boys, now with the addition of Elwood Francis in Dusty’s place stage right, I’m sure he approves! I’ve been fortunate, blessed to have photograph That Little Ol’ Band from Texas four times, twice Clandestinely, yet only the 86 Nurse Goodbody show gets an actual count as the 84 adventure no one remembers who I went with or how I got my camera into the show and the images all s__k! Most likely a combination of too much partying, too slow a film speed and a few nerves possibly?

Samantha Fish & Jesse Dayton Death Wish Blues Tour along with Eric Johanson
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
July 16, 2023 - So I finally got to catch Samantha Fish, I’d been trying for a while and either I’d never hear back from the venues or festivals or I’d have a previous commitment. Thankfully that all came to an end recently as Ms Fish and Texas own Jesse Dayton were on their Death Wish Blues Tour! A photographer friend grew up with Jesse so I felt fairly confident I would get approval, yet somehow managed to forget to reach out to the contact she shared with me! Yet all was not lost as the DWB tour made a circle back through Houston again, this time I didn’t fail to do my part and was approved! Samantha & Jesse were also accompanied by New Orleans native Eric Johanson and playing again an The Heights Theater. A venue I had wanted the opportunity to shoot at for years having grown up in the Heights.

Sisters of Mercy at Bayou Music Center

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
May 26,2023 - Trying to recall through the cobwebs in my mind the time frame when S.O.M. were rocking out, I read they had a falling out with the record company and just decided to stop making albums! This is something I can relate to or at least understand, sometimes you just have to take a stand! Figured I ought to try and catch them, just in case they decide to stop again. Very dark lighting and Andrew was the biggest challenge I got one really decent lit shot and some cool high drama shots, but always seemed to be at the wrong angle or wrong side of the stage. But it was a very cool show and the diversity of the crowd in attendance at Bayou Music Center some fans from the 80s & 90s and the new fans too! I took my film camera, but not expecting a lot due to the lighting, we will see eventually! Cant just drop it off anywhere i learned the hard way! Just say No to Precision Camera! Ill be looking for more images to post, again sorry for the delay, sometimes Life! - Richard -

Nikki Lane Denim and Diamond Tour at Last Concert Cafe
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
April 14, 2023 - I remember as I was going through the images I took of Nikki Lane in October wondering when she would return again? Thankfully I did have to wait too long to find out, coming upon a Spring Tour starting back at Last Concert Cafe in April! Still a ways out I marked the date. Now we’ll find out the answer to “Will she let me back in?”. Nikki was also one of 3 artists I’d hoped to photograph in April, thankfully I got 2 of the 3. You know I’m a fan of this young lady and it seems others are taking notice as well, saw Ms Nikki is in a Flogging Molly video and she’ll be traveling with Chris Stapleton in October and possibly a chance for a 3rd Nikki Lane show as they come through Houston in October? (Lindsey Stirling(5), Blue October(4), Nikki Lane(3?) a boy can dream. 10 years getting to do this that’s pretty cool too!

Blue October - Spinning The Truth Around @ 713 Music Hall
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
April 08, 2023 - So Ive been fortunate to photograph several artist & bands multiple times, some more than others. Blue October is one of those bands Ive had the pleasure to photograph 4 times now, with the first 2 shows being allowed full show coverage! No music photographer is going to pass up an opportunity to capture it all! Blue October was wrapping up a 70 show tour of Spinning The Truth Around with two sold out hometown shows at 713 Music Hall! This was also my first time at 713, very nice venue and nice staff too. There was a bit of minor confusion initially as the Beatnik Bandits took the stage, but was resolved before Blue October took over the party!

2023 Begins with Betty Who at House of Blues
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
March 4, 2023 - 2023 got off to a slow start, yet this marks 10 years of getting to do concert photography, TYL! With the Live Nation Portal I applied for 4 various artists, one I knew would be a No, but you never Know unless you ask? But I felt better about the other 2, having photographed one band before. How ever I recently learned I might have been applying too early? And having heard nothing from the others, began thinking I was gonna go 0 for 4! I want to thank Betty Who for being the first artist to allow me to begin my 10th year. Realizing I’m recognizing fewer artists coming to town, I had heard of Betty Who prior, having come upon one song on Instagram. Usually accompanying a little one on the screen. I even have it on my phone, but that was my extent into this young lady. But if you’re one of my Many Instagram followers (4), then you know I request a variety of artists.

Tauren Wells Joy in the Morning Tour at Smart Financial Centre
Phots & Words by Richard Roesler
October 27, 2022 - I received a message inquiring if I’d like to interview or photograph Houston native and Christian artist Tauren Wells who was stopping by Smart Financial Centre on his Joy in the Morning Tour. After replying my interview skills are along the lines of “Do you like toast?” I indicated I would be interested in photos, all though I wasn’t sure I’d hear back. You don’t sometimes, but it was an opportunity to photograph another Christian artist, my second and finally get to check out SFC. There is some amazing music in the Christian artist category, they seek to reach a diverse group of musical tastes, same as main stream artist and some like Amy Grant, Lauren Daigle and others have cross over fans.

Nikki Lane Denim & Diamonds Tour
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
October 20, 2022 - So I finally got to catch a young lady I’ve been wanting to cover for a while now, Nikki Lane! I became aware of her through social media of course, the variety of images of Ms Nikki intrigued me, yet I chose to not listen to any of her music prior to finally getting the opportunity to see her. Or as it is with me point glass at them, I’ve never asked, but I assume they reflect back as artist can always find them. Eye contact yes, although a couple times, as if she wasn’t sure about it? Any music photographer, if allowed will shoot the entire show given the opportunity you can get some interesting images. Some you dig out of the lights of wrong color and they become B&Ws, which I like anyway. And sometimes you get a stellar lighting opportunity and get a shot, even if by pure chance that you keep looking at.

Peter McPoland Opened for twenty øne piløts
Picures & Words by Richard Roesler
September 14, 2022 - Houston's own. OK the Woodlands own Peter McPoland is spending the back half of 2022 opening for twenty øne piløts! Not bad for the "could not have bee too long ago high school graduate"? Peter seems to have appeared in force in 2018. Although not origianally from Texas Peter has been in town since grade school, while I dont know when he began the club circuit, if he even did, it wasnt long. However Houston and the surronding areas offer plenty of venues to hone your craft, Peter seems to have fast tracked it. Im not saying didn't put in the effort in any way, he's just moving it along! While waiting to head down to the main floor, one of the approved photographers waiting mentioned being a Freshman. I said "Please tell me in collage?! Nope! Geez I'M old!
