Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
November 24, 2018 - I got to head over to Revention Music Center for the second year in what I hope will become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition, covering the Hometown Furstenfeld Brothers and The Boys of Blue October! If you have yet to spend Saturday night with a few thousand of you closet friends, you are missing out! That being said the evening sells out so mark it on you calendar in August if you plan on attending the 2019 party?
These guys put on an amazing show for the Houston crowd, with Justin taking to time to talk about his personal journeys, which between these impromptu talks during the shows and the music of Blue October, you repeatedly read and hear how he and the music helped saved someone that was in a dark place. I sent a link to “I Hope Your Happy” to someone that really shouldn’t be in My Past and she replied that she thought it was sad. I wasn't sure why, as I don't view it that way. I guess that's the thing about music, we each take away something different from it.
So I went this year with the intention of trying to capture a decent shot of Jeremy, something I felt I didn’t do last year and barely did this year! Jeremy and Butch Vig seem to hide in the light just doing their drummer thing? The lighting was cool and I tried some different things photographically, which somehow between that and an apparent lack of timing on my part lighting wise I didn’t really capture any great shots of Ryan, Matt or Will! I’m not really sure what I was doing during our 3 songs in the pit?
I want to thank Blue October for allowing us to again, photograph the entire show again this year, for a photographer that is always cool! I did get some decent images of Justin; he is very photographer friendly in my opinion, all you have to do is recall my glitch last year. Id like to apologize for the delay in posting, been some “issues”, along with apologizing for my lack of proper capture of the band. I believe I should just be pre-approved for this new Thanksgiving tradition for the next 10 to 15 years or taken on tour until I learn to properly do my job!
